Bedroom Decorating
I have always appreciated bedroom decorating…especially the master bedroom.
Your bedroom, or anyone’s else’s bedroom for that matter, is a place of rest, refuge and yes, recreation. It is a private place that even small children need…. a place to call their own.
And then there are guest’s bedrooms that invite others to stay awhile. These are important too.
One aspect of bedroom decorating involves placing the furniture out of the way of blaring noise and bright morning sunlight. It is one thing to wake up to the softly muted light of morning and quite another to wake up with the sun blazing sun, staring you in the eye. When you first move into your new home, the correct placement of the bed may not be readily apparent. It is important to place the bed where it is most comfortable. Perhaps near the window, where the sounds of a busy street may be heard is not the best spot either. Again, you may need to modify the location.
Needless to say, you need to solicit the help of curtains to create privacy in your bedroom. I like good closure at night, but during the day, I want to see natural sunshine. So I placed soft, white sheers in our bedroom.
I also paid attention to restful colors on the walls during my bedroom decorating planning stage. The vinyl wallpaper in our bedroom is a light sky blue with soft clouds floating on the paper. Since the walls are ten feet with a 14 foot coffered ceiling, I put an ornate 15th century Italian fresco border at both the ceiling level, and at the baseboard level. The border is a reproduction of a ceiling fresco found in a tiny church outside of Florence. The fresco border appears to “float” on the wallpaper, as though on a cloud.
And since I didn’t want to sleep next to a window again, for temperature and noise, we chose a double paned half moon window at the ceiling level, for our window choice, over the bed. I found a beautiful, luminescent bronze organza scarf at the local mass marketer that I draped on drapery knobs to accentuate the window and pull out the bronze color in the fresco border.
As for other bedroom decorating tips, Home Decorators Collection
has great bargains on curtain knobs, hooks, etc. They also have a section on selecting color preferences for your home. I REALLY like buying from these people and have NEVER had a problem. Don’t forget to register, ‘cause they really do send you an e-mail about their close out specials! And they do a good job of keeping your account information handy, which speeds order processing! Although I am not sure why the prices in the catalog are higher than the prices on the Net. Are they trying to pay for the cost of the catalog, and mailing it? I am not sure!
